A TV Globo, one of Brazil’s main television stations, is undergoing a process of technological upgrading in its studios located in Sao Paulo. What is new is the introduction of remotely controlled robotic cameras in a glass studio used by local Sao Paulo newspapers. The main goal of this initiative is to optimize resources and make production more modern.

The Rio de Janeiro-based company recently fired about twenty tech professionals. However, Globo clarifies that this change is not due to the reduction of his team. According to information compiled by the Notícias da TV website, tests with robotic cameras began in April, but they surprised some employees because they were carried out without their prior knowledge. This unexpected fact created an atmosphere of apprehension in the tech sector and news production.

It is predicted that robotic cameras will be installed in the panoramic studio in São Paulo by the end of June. However, at the moment, the replacement only occurs in local São Paulo programs such as “Bom Dia São Paulo” presented by Rodrigo Bocardi, “SP1” and “SP2”. The intention is to gradually expand the use of robot cameras to other programs on the channel.

However, national news programs such as “Jornal Hoje” presented by Cesar Tralli and “Jornal da Globo” with Renata Lo Prete as the main presenter are still broadcast by human controlled cameras. The justification for the lack of modernization in the national programs is the lack of sufficient space to replace equipment in the studio.

With this robotic camera initiative, TV Globo aims to adapt to new technologies and provide viewers with a better visual experience. Although this process may cause anxiety and uncertainty among some professionals, the broadcaster emphasizes that modernization is a necessary step forward in order to remain competitive in the current television market.

Globo has been using electronically controlled cameras in Sao Paulo since 2019.

Since 2019, TV Globo has already introduced the use of electronically controlled cameras in its structure in the city of São Paulo, in particular in GloboNews. In addition, the imposing Jornal Nacional, opened in 2017, is made entirely by robots, eliminating the need for professionals. Remote control of these cameras is done with a joystick, a device similar to those used in video games. The specialist in charge of the operation is located in the news or program control center, adjusting framing and performing other functions remotely.

In a statement to Notícias da TV, Globo confirmed that it is testing robotic cameras in its studios. Broadcaster Marinho emphasized that this initiative represents an evolution and innovation in its communication methods. It is important to note that Globo also uses automated cameras in entertainment productions such as the famous Big Brother Brasil, where this technology is widely used.
