Ghent University Hospital has switched to a Pure Storage storage system for storage and security of all patient medical information. UZ Gent turned to NTT Ltd for technical advice, implementation and follow-up.
Availability guaranteed
The Ghent University Hospital wanted a new storage system with a high responsiveness, on which an environment would continue to run in the event of a failure. “This switch is a huge improvement,” says Bram van Groenigen, head of the ICT infrastructure department at UZ Gent. “Once a month we have to update all servers. With the previous storage system, this was accompanied by lag and a subpar user experience. With the new configuration, everything runs smoothly and with almost no delays.”
“Currently, 450 terabytes are stored on a thousand virtual servers in this environment. It was duplicated and spread across two data centers that are close to each other. This way, if one environment fails, the other can seamlessly take over without impacting end users,” says Robin Joncheere, Managing Director at NTT Ltd. for Belgium. “This ensures enormous reliability and an availability of 99.999%.”
More usability, more time for ICT staff
Bram van Groenigen is also very satisfied with the user-friendliness of the new storage environment: “Pure Storage is very user-friendly and has a clear and modern interface that simplifies administration. This new environment places fewer demands on our ICT team, who are now more focused on their core activities.”
