Although, in general, when we talk about Windows 11 updates, mainly we tend to think about big updatesAs well as the upcoming 22H1 and future 22H2 Sun Valley 2, we are used to seeing many other “minor” updates in between. Either to solve a previously identified problem, to improve the performance of a feature, or even to modify an aspect of the operating system.

The problem with updates, both Windows 11 and other versions and other operating systems and applications, and this is nothing new, is that sometimes they are not as polished as they should be or in some cases with some type of incompatibility that was not detected at the testing stage. Windows Insiders is a great help in this regard, as the test field is extended by several orders of magnitude, but still gremlins which complicate everything.

This is the case, as confirmed by the company itself, update KB5012643. Maybe, especially if you have a good numeric memory, you will be aware of this and we talked about it a week ago, specifically what solved the problem that caused Windows 11, in certain POS systems (point-of-sale terminal) it may take up to 40 minutes. It was the lime one (or the sand one, I never knew which was good and which was bad), in this problem we found sand.

And as Microsoft found out, Windows 11 with this update has compatibility issues with some components of the .NET Framework 3.5and recommends affected users to uninstall the update. Or, for those who prefer the workaround, Microsoft suggests using the following commands in an open console with administrator privileges:

dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:netfx3 /all
dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:WCF-HTTP-Activation
dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:WCF-NonHTTP-Activation

There is no fix or update available at this time to resolve this issuebut given this manual option to reactivate failing .NET Framework elements with this Windows 11 update, it seems quite likely that we won’t have to wait too long for the final fix.

The problem is that the vast majority of users do not know what common elements, such as these features of the Microsoft framework, are used by the applications they use on their PC. so they don’t know if this Windows 11 update applies to them. Microsoft claims that this problem will cause these applications to run intermittently or not at all. Therefore, if you are a Windows 11 user, have applied this update to your system, and some applications have stopped working, try uninstalling the update to see if this is the case.
