iPad tablets boast powerful hardware, but do not support macOS and applications with a familiar desktop interface. It seems that Apple is still thinking about a similar scenario for the operation of branded devices – this is evidenced by one of the company’s new patents.

The document determines whether the tablet can be connected to an external keyboard, then it enters laptop mode. At the same time, the user interface changes accordingly, almost completely copying macOS. Of the interesting, improved multitasking can be noted with opening applications in windows with variable sizes, which allows you to quickly switch and share content between them.

The text of the patent says that the tablet is attached to the keyboard using magnets. In addition, the hinge has a place to store the Apple Pencil stylus. Additional components such as video conferencing, a microphone, or a projector can also be built into the keyboard.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently stated that Apple may be working on three modes for the iPad that would launch automatically based on user actions and other factors. The standard one will be similar to iPadOS in its current form. When using the Apple Pencil, the interface will be rebuilt to work with the accessory, and the professional mode described by it completely coincides with the information from the new patent.

There is a possibility that Apple will introduce innovations in iPadOS at the WWDC 2022 conference, which starts on June 6th.
