In the early stages, generative AI tools like ChatGPT took over most of our business. Despite its impressive (and consistently terrifying) conversational capabilities, ChatGPT pulls information from pre-selected and out-of-date data rather than fetching it in real-time from the internet. This may end soon when OpenAI announces web browsing support in ChatGPT. Additionally, ChatGPT plugins are now more widely available.
OpenAI recently updated its ChatGPT release notes to announce that the chatbot is now able to access the Internet. Meanwhile, add-ons or tools that allow you to access third-party services through ChatGPT are moving from alpha to beta and are now available to all ChatGPT Plus users, i.e. those who pay to use the additional features in the chatbot.
Specifically, the plugins were first made available to insiders in March 2023 with services like OpenTable, Zapier, Expedia, Instacart, KAYAK, Shopify, and more. OpenAI says ChatGPT Plus users will now have more than 70 plugins available, and Twitter user @DataChaz shares a list of available apps.
If you are a ChatGPT Plus subscriber, you can access the web browser and its add-ons by going to the ChatGPT settings in the lower left corner of the chatbot interface. In Settings, go to beta features and enable web browsing and plugins.
