At its Google I/O keynote on Wednesday, Google announced the first performance AI features for Google Search. With this feature, Google will provide answers to search queries using artificial intelligence with links to helpful resources. Right now this is just a test and if you want to try it on Chrome or Google you will have to join a waiting list.
Here are the steps you can take to join the waitlist in your browser or Google app:
At the conference, Google launched a new AI-driven search query, “Which is better for a family with kids under 3 and a dog, Bryce Canyon or Arches?” It showed the search. A block of artificial intelligence appeared above the familiar blue links, giving a detailed conversational answer to the question. It has been noted that not every park allows dogs on dirt roads, but Bryce Canyon has two paved trails where dogs can enter.
Below the AI-generated answer, Google offers a few different steps, including pre-written follow-up questions and the option to write your own follow-up question. Clicking any of these prompts activates a new conversation mode that includes the context from the first question. In other words, you can start an entire conversation with Google Search.
When searching for a product, Google’s new AI shopping experience will provide a “snapshot of key factors to consider and matching products.” You will also be able to view product descriptions, recent reviews, ratings, prices, images and more. Google said that access to the new AI-powered search feature will begin in the coming weeks.
