Microsoft has issued an advisory for users and companies that maintain Windows 10 21H2 PCs. This version only has a month of operation left and you need to start thinking about updating it.

Windows 10 21H2 was developed under the code name “Sun Valley”, Windows boss Panos Panay promised that it would “most interesting version” since the operating system saw the light five years ago. And it certainly was because it came after a disastrous version release that led Microsoft to deliver only Service Pack updates. This version was the first of the “big ones”, it coincided with the launch of Windows 11 and brought many new features, especially in the interface; widget for new news and interests; Microsoft Store restored; a new task manager or GPU computing in the Linux subsystem for Windows to name a few.

It was certainly an important version that many of us held on to for quite some time. But nothing lasts forever, because as you know, Windows version updates have a lifespan of 18 months. Home, Pro, Pro Education and Pro for Workstations editions of Windows 10 21H2 will thus reach the end of service. June 13when they receive the latest security update on the monthly Patch Tuesday.

In today’s world, you cannot maintain a system without security updates. And much less Windows… That’s why Microsoft adopted the strategy of you update or I’ll update you. So Windows Update will automatically start updating features for Windows 10 consumer devices and unmanaged commercial devices that are at the end of the service.

How do I update Windows 10 21H2

If you have computers on this version, do it yourself rather than have Microsoft do it for you. The options are the usual. The easiest way is to go to Windows Update and update to the latest stable version available 22H2. Upgrading allows you to keep files, installed apps and user settings, although it doesn’t hurt to make a backup before downgrading. From there:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Click the “check for updates” button.
  • Click the “download and install now” link to update the version.

Another alternative. If you want to use the version change to clean up, you can choose a method installation from scratch. To do this, download the ISO image from Microsoft’s web portal, create an installation media with your preferred application (such as Rufus), and install.

And if your computer is compatible with Windows 11 requirements, you can choose to migrate from the system. You can do it from Windows Update or from the official site.
