TecToy On: what’s in the box?
At a time when manufacturers reduce the number of products to reduce costs [ou alegar preocupação com o meio ambiente]TecToy offers the consumer a complete “starter pack”. beyond the smartphonewhich comes with USB cable this charger 10Wwe still have transparent plastic housing is an screen film.
And more: also included a pair of TWS wireless earbuds – something rare to see in products in this price range.
Design and construction: unattractive white version
Period, term white label refers to a product that is produced in a standard way by one company and then branded by another company for sale in the market. In this sense, TecToy On does not bring any innovation, on the contrary: it resembles the models that went on sale between the beginning of 2018 and the end of 2019.
Continuation after commercial
With a quick search on the Internet, you will find similar models such as the Alcatel 3L or Redmi Note 7. In this sense, the brand prefers to provide the basics of the basics without too many attractions.
OUR back cover plastic, painted with a gradient effect from blue to black, which leads to an interesting view. The fingerprint scanner is in the same place, right in the middle. There are two buttons on the right side – power and volume controls – and another one on the left side that can be used as a shortcut to Google Assistant. The SIM tray is hybrid type and includes space for a micro SD card.
Despite the fact that it comes with wireless headphones, there is a 3.5 mm jack on top. Particular attention is paid to the microUSB input – something that had already fallen into disuse at the time of the device’s launch, and now with so many USB-C options on the market, it seems even worse.
Finally, the device is compatible with Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC, allowing for purchases via approximation, but it’s disappointing to only offer WiFi 802.11 b/g/n – which means it only compatible with 2.4GHz networks.
Screen: Entry-Level Cell Phone Specs
Although TecToy launched the On as an intermediate model, there are several aspects that indicate that it is actually more of an entry-level device, which is in line with the current price.
ABOUT IPS LCD type display with a diagonal of 6.22 inches. If the size is quite adequate, then you can’t say the same about the resolution: 720×1520 pixels (HD+). The refresh rate is 60 Hz, which is sufficient for a model with such characteristics.
This set provides a reasonable look and requires more intense brightness to keep the image from suffering. As a result, some pixelation can be noticed from time to time, and the most intense brightness can drain the battery a little more than expected.
Settings, performance and system: Android 10 clean, no updates
While it is not clear to the consumer which SoC is being used, TecToy On offers Processor MediaTek Helio P22in conjunction with 4 GB RAM as well as 128 GB internal memory. These tweaks run stock Android 10 with ease, ensuring that its performance matches the product’s offering.
Continuation after commercial
However, even though TecToy hasn’t tweaked the OS, there are places where you can see some degree of customization, such as in the camera app. There are still some pre-installed games and apps that can be removed, likely as a result of a partnership between the company and the developers.
Another drawback: forget about updates. Since it was released in September 2020, the model only received the November 2020 security patch – never again since. Android 10 out of the box present on the phone should be the only OS version it will see.
In our tests, all the most frequently used applications worked without problems. Whatsapp, Facebook, Gmail, Instagram, Twitter, Google Chrome, Google Maps… They will all run smoothly.
Problems can arise when you try to run multiple applications at the same time. There is some delay when switching from one application to another. This delay is more noticeable when using a face reader, as it “thinks” a bit before completing recognition. Choose a fingerprint reader for more guaranteed results.
For those who are going to use social networks and instant messengers, the performance is excellent. Already in some games it will be noticeable that the device is making great efforts.
Games? The simplest ones, like Subway Surfers, Coin Master, or Clash of Clans, work flawlessly. Now games that require more processing power, such as Call of Duty Mobile or Genshin Impact, will experience frame drops and minor freezes from time to time.
Cameras: when numbers aren’t enough
The TecToy On smartphone has a triple set of cameras on the back:
main, 48 MP and f/1.8 aperture;
ultra-wide, with 5 megapixels and f/2.2 aperture;
and macro, with 2 megapixels and f/2.4 aperture.
Unfortunately, none of them have mind-blowing image quality., Against. On the main camera, images look more saturated than what we see before capture. At overwidth, light imbalance is noticeable, especially on the sides of the image. And macro, including because of the low resolution, does not give such satisfactory results.
On the front camera – 8 megapixel resolution and f / 2.0 aperture – the results are satisfactory, if you do not use portrait mode. This one distorts contours and hinders more than it helps. It’s not a bad camera and fits the product’s price range, but don’t expect a high level of detail.
Sound quality: a pleasant surprise, another not so good
As we mentioned here, TecToy On Comes with TWS wireless earbuds – something very rare for smartphones in this price range, which is very positive. The model has IPX4 protection, against water splashes and a battery life of about 4 and a half hours. The sound quality is quite satisfactory.
But, the smartphone’s audio outputs themselves provide mono audio, not stereo. Only one of the outputs works, and the feeling of muffled sound is quite noticeable when you watch YouTube videos or even listen to WhatsApp audio. This is the weak point of the device.
Battery: good autonomy, but very slow recharging
The 4000 mAh battery is enough for a whole day of battery life. Of course, this time drops a lot with more intensive use, especially in games that require more processing power or video streaming.
Battery life won’t be a problem for most users, but charging times are confusing. It took over 3 hours to fully charge, which is unthinkable these days. If the battery is only 50% charged, it should take at least an hour to complete.
Smartphone TecToy On: is it worth it?
Let’s be honest: for the price at launch, it wasn’t a very good buy. But if you take into account that today it costs less than half and still gives additional items like a case, a film and TWS wireless headphones, then everything becomes more interesting.
Let’s be clear: this is a slightly dated cell phone that hasn’t received an update in a while and has problems in some aspects – front camera portrait mode, battery recharging time, lack of USB-C and audio outputs. However, if you’re looking for an entry-level model, this TecToy kit might be interesting for at least a year or two.
Keep in mind that this will limit your usage if you want to run heavier games or abuse the multitasking features. Its purpose is mainly to serve those who use social networks, browse the Internet and watch YouTube videos (preferably with headphones).
If you see TecToy On for sale, consider purchasing with these aspects already in mind. Otherwise, it is better to look for newer and more modern models, even if you have to pay a little more for it.
