The Phone Link app in Windows 11 now supports sending messages through iMessage on iPhone.

At the end of April, Microsoft already announced that the Phone Link app is compatible with the iPhone. From now on everyone can get started with the new function. Apple restricts many functions within Windows 11. Today you can only send and receive messages, receive calls and see notifications. If you want more functionality, you should of course go to macOS because of the seamless integration.

Strikingly, Microsoft guarantees compatibility with iMessage, which is actually a unique feature for macOS. A special trick is used here. Incoming messages via iMessage are intercepted via Bluetooth. You can reply to it directly. Then the message will be left as “iMessage”. The only downside is that you cannot access your chat history. Participating in group conversations within iMessage also does not work with this trick.

Opening apps from your iPhone on Windows 11 doesn’t work, unlike some Android phones. There’s also no photo integration to access all your media from your phone directly in Windows 11. The latter was available via Android from the start.

To pair your iPhone with Windows 11, the Phone Link app needs an update first. Normally this happens automatically and the function should already work. Is not that the case? Go to the Microsoft Store app and search for telephone connection and click “Update” to download the latest version. The app requires iOS 14 or higher and a Bluetooth connection.
