SpaceX plans to build the world’s first commercial space station

Last month, SpaceX launched a mission to set a new world record. The company is now preparing to build the world’s first commercial space station. SpaceX is set to revolutionize space travel and settlement in partnership with Vast, a Los Angeles-based company. The International Space Station (ISS) is coming to an end. Overcoming this challenge, SpaceX and Vast have announced their ambitious plans to launch the first commercial space station. As early as August 2025, SpaceX plans to use its trusty Falcon 9 rocket to launch the main module of the Haven-1 station into low Earth orbit.

Shortly after Haven-1 launches, it will be joined by a larger module called Vast-1. This will be followed by the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft with a crew of four astronauts. The team is expected to live and work on the main station for about a month before returning to Earth with the Crew Dragon capsule.

Tom Ochinero, president of SpaceX, expressed his excitement for the project. “We’re using a commercial rocket to launch a commercial spacecraft with commercial astronauts to a commercial space station. We’re working hand in hand with Vast on this revolutionary project that we believe represents the future of low Earth orbit.”

Founded in 2021 as a pioneer in space technology, Vast plans to sell all four seats on its first flight. The company expects a diverse range of clients, from individuals associated with local and international space agency projects to private investors. However, the details of the price of this venture have not been disclosed yet.

In preparation for the mission, SpaceX will train four crew members for the Crew Dragon flight aboard Falcon 9 and subsequent return journeys within the spacecraft. With the ISS decommissioned in 2031, private companies like SpaceX are accelerating plans to launch their own stations to keep human life alive and functioning in low Earth orbit.
