The consequences of being able to store many applications, documents, photos and videos on our mobile are clear: At some point we will reach the limit. And while it’s true that there are many good tricks to free up space on your mobile, in my particular case I have a solution that keeps it from even touching the storage limit. No more or less than Telegram.
I can say right away that it is useful to use it as my main messaging app, as it does not take up as much space as WhatsApp. This is true. But, it’s all a matter of organizing files. While Telegram isn’t a perfect system, it’s a good way to avoid uploading tens of GB of files to your mobile phone.
Important or temporary files. All for Telegram
I’ve switched between note apps, file managers, and more over the years, but in the end, I always kept Telegram as a tool. file slot that you can refer to quickly and at any time. And the process is very simple: send them in a chat and that’s it.
Mainly about sending myself any type of file Although they don’t take up much space at first, they generally do. My ID scanned as a PDF, the rental agreement of my house, the tickets for my next movie visit, the menu of the restaurant I’m going to… Anything goes. And of course, also photos and videosbut in this case I have a lot of storage in the cloud and only spend the ones that take up a lot of space (and that’s not normal).
In this app, there is a chat with yourself called ‘Saved messages’. It was originally the recipient of these files, but over time I realized how important it is to have a good organization. I achieved this thanks to the combination of groups and the possibility of creating folders in Telegram.
Groups are normal and ordinary. First I create them with the help of a guinea pig (hello to the friends I “used” for this), because by default we can’t just create a group with ourselves, but we can add others and delete them until only we are left. . I add them to those groups before saying I will delete them, and then I change the name of the group and add a photo that allows me to find it faster. Then I add it to a folder I call “Files”.
I admit I had a more detailed organization a while ago but for now I’m stuck with these:
- Personal files (for my identity and other similar documents)
- House data (rental agreement, electricity meter CUPS, utility bills, etc.)
- Family files (files related to family data that you need to have)
- Temporary files (movie tickets and other similar documents that I delete because it’s not important to keep them for later)
As it is clear that the application makes sense, As soon as I send those files there, I delete them from my phone’s memory.. I admit that in most cases I have them in my personal cloud, but in the end it’s something I’m used to and in the end I always find the files in Telegram in that cloud before.
Example of chat for temporary files that I delete when I don’t need them later
That’s why, and frankly not the only thing, Telegram has played a key role in helping me conserve free space over the years. I recently mentioned this to a friend of mine who was having trouble freeing up space on his cell phone, and although it may have seemed a bit strange at first, he saw something useful in this system and found it to be very intuitive and practical indeed.
Why do I use Telegram and not WhatsApp for this?
A while ago I told you that Telegram has a generous 2GB limit and WhatsApp stuck at 100MB for years. But since 2022 WhatsApp has increased this limit for posts and is already on par with WhatsApp.
So why do I prioritize it over WhatsApp? plain and simple that WhatsApp files keep taking up space on my mobile and cloud (if I make a backup) but not in Telegram. Second, it offers unlimited storage on its own servers, making it accessible from any device you log into. It doesn’t matter if I delete the files from my mobile either, because they will still be kept in chats.
on WhatsappFor its part, everything we send and receive will stay in our gallery. If we delete it from there, they will continue to be in the chat, but they will not be able to see it unless we download it, at this point of course, they are stored in the internal memory again, they do this task to free up space. impossible.
Then there is a more personal fact that, as I said at the beginning, the application I use most to communicate with my family and friends is Telegram. Therefore, it’s more comfortable for me to have everything in the same app. Sometimes, I have already enumerated other uses that Telegram replaces more and more applications on my mobile. That savings space is, of course, one more thing that adds up.
