A lawyer for Twitter owner Elon Musk has accused Microsoft of using “unauthorized” Twitter information, including in some cases the unauthorized transfer of data to government agencies.
In a letter to the Microsoft CEO, Musk’s lawyer asked the company to conduct an audit of the use of Twitter content. Under the agreement, the social network imposes limits on the use of the application programming interface (API) for all developers.
“Despite these limitations, Microsoft apps have accessed the Twitter API more than 780 million times and received more than 26 billion tweets in 2022 alone,” the letter states.
A Microsoft representative said the company had received an investigation Thursday from a law firm representing Twitter’s interests, which included some questions regarding the prior use of Twitter’s free APIs.
A company representative said, “We will investigate these issues and respond appropriately. We look forward to continuing our long-term partnership with the company.”
It is worth noting that Twitter’s accusations came at a time when Elon Musk was in conflict with Microsoft over its artificial intelligence platform.
