Apple has supported a number of companies that have banned employees from using generative artificial intelligence during work. The ban affects the use of tools such as Open IA’s ChatGPT due to concerns that sensitive information used in day-to-day work will eventually be leaked or collected by the tool.
The Wall Street Journal pointed out that the new sanctions imposed by Apple also affected the use of other programming tools such as GitHub artificial intelligence, Copilot. Despite being a recently released measure, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman noted that ChatGPT has long been part of Apple’s restrictions.
The ChatGPT ban policy adopted by Apple largely depends on how the interaction between users and the tool itself takes place. Conversations are saved for learning OpenAI systems and can be reviewed by moderators if needed.
Recognizing that this way of working can prevent new users from joining the platform, OpenIA has released a feature to not save ChatGPT chat history. The option came at a time when several countries in the European Union began investigating the tool for possible privacy violations.

Apple fears privacy leaks
Apple’s concern revolves around this type of situation, given that the Cupertino company is aware of the possibility that employees can enter sensitive project information to get feedback on code improvements.
Recent research has already shown that it is possible to extract some training data from certain language models using AI chat itself. However, it is important to emphasize that there is no evidence that ChatGPT is one of these tools vulnerable to these types of intrusions.
