Synology launches DS423 as an entry-level 4-bay NAS

The Synology DS423 is the right place for anyone who wants a NAS but can’t afford too much budget for it.

Within its budget, Synology launches the DS423 NAS with a focus on small businesses. Spread across the four hard drive slots, the NAS supports up to 72TB of raw network storage. Synology’s product is aimed primarily at companies that want to consolidate their data within a central platform.

With Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM), the NAS’s user-friendly web interface (and operating system), you can conveniently manage your data through applications.

Other extras within DSM include data organization and protection, multi-site collaboration and on-site video surveillance. If you want additional security, you can set up a hybrid cloud via Synology C2. The data is regularly cached locally on one or more Synology NAS.

Synology DS423 also supports Btrfs, a file system to protect data from corruption, and provides instant snapshots for reverting to a previous state in the event of technical problems or a hack.

With 2GB of DDR4 RAM on board and a Realtek RTD1619B CPU (quad-core 1.7GHz), we immediately notice that this NAS is purely focused on network storage. If you need additional virtualization, you should look higher up in the brand’s offering for alternatives.

The Synology DS423 is available now. The manufacturer does not announce an official suggested retail price. Online prices start at EUR 340 plus VAT.

Earlier this week, Synology also launched two AI-powered cameras in the Benelux countries. You can read more about this here.
