There are no major feature updates, but there are plenty of minor bug fixes and a long list of security patches.

Shortly before Apple’s WWDC developer conference begins on June 5, numerous patches will be released in a software update. As the version numbers suggest, iOS 16.5 and macOS 13.4, there aren’t really many new features left. The focus is on improvements, bug fixes and security updates.

There has been a bug in macOS for a while that prevented people with an Apple Watch from unlocking their device. With macOS 13.4 this is now a thing of the past. The issue that caused Bluetooth peripherals to connect slowly has also been fixed.

iOS 16.5 focuses on improving the Spotlight feature that was crashing and issues within the Podcasts app in Apple CarPlay.

According to Apple, both patches contain numerous vulnerabilities, three of which are currently being exploited “in the wild” within WebKit. The update finalizes the quick updates within Rapid Security Response. This feature was first publicly tested earlier this month to push security updates faster and more frequently to all devices.

As usual, Apple releases the latest software versions at WWDC every year. Very few details are known at this time. The only thing Apple has already announced is that the accessibility options will be significantly expanded thanks to AI. Read more about this in a detailed blog from the manufacturer.
