The Indian government plans to take action against Google after an antitrust watchdog found last year that the group abused its market position by condoning anti-competitive practices.

This was reported by Reuters with reference to the senior information technology minister, according to Ukrinform.

In October, India’s antitrust agency fined Google $275 million in two lawsuits related to abusing its dominant position in the Android OS market and forcing developers to use the embedded payment system.

Federal Deputy Minister of Information Technology Rajiv Chandrasekhar said the findings were “serious” and cause “deep concern” for the Indian federal government, which will take its own action against Google.

“The Ministry must act. We’ve thought about it. You’ll see that in the coming weeks,” Chandrasekhar said.

The minister declined to specify exactly what policy or regulatory measures the government might take.

As reported by Ukrinform, Google has announced that from December 2023 it will begin deleting accounts that have been inactive for at least two years.
