Amazon Prime Air completes drone delivery of 100 groceries

The drone delivery segment is growing significantly every year, with several companies bringing solutions to market. Amazon has created an Amazon Prime Air division to start delivering its products via drones, announcing this Friday (19) that it has reached the 100 delivery mark. That number puts Amazon far behind other companies like Walmart, which has already made about 600,000 deliveries with partner company Zipline.

Amazon published the information exclusively for CNBC, and also reported that By the end of 2023, it intends to make at least 10,000 deliveries.. That is, from now on, the company must scale its activities and accelerate delivery using drones. Several companies are currently investing in drone delivery solutions for any type of food, including pizza, or to meet the needs of isolated regions such as small archipelagos.

In order for the company to reach its goal of 10,000 deliveries by the end of 2023, it will need to convince the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) to approve the expansion of operations. at this point, an Amazon spokesman said the company was having difficulty with the agency. “While the FAA has expanded Prime Air’s drone delivery mandate to include locations in California and Texas, the process of expanding our service areas is taking longer than we expected. In addition, in the course of the massive layoffs carried out by the company, several Amazon Air Prime employees were fired from the company.

If Amazon wants to become a strong name in the drone delivery market, it will have to go after other companies. According to CNBC, Walmart and partner company Zipline (responsible for drones) have already made more than 600,000 commercial deliveries. Basically, these were the deliveries of medicines to different regions of Africa. In any case, Amazon and Walmart are not the only companies keeping an eye on the market, with several companies around the world presenting their solutions. In the future, drone delivery service should become more and more common.
