The v54 software update of the Meta Quest virtual reality headset brings some interesting news to the user. Now the Meta headset allows change the appearance of Skybox, the user’s virtual home inside the virtual reality glasses. In addition to being able to switch to different custom images, the update also includes notifications for 2D apps.

The news was published on the company’s official blog, where the Custom Skybox View tool is described in more detail. In it, the user can bring high-resolution images into the Skybox, changing the appearance of their virtual home. Images can be used as backgrounds, but unfortunately only the user will be able to view changes to their skybox.

Modify Your Skybox With JPG Images

Skybox custom view accepts 360-degree JPG or PNG images at 6144 x 3160 resolution. According to metadata, the software update is available for Meta Quest headsets in all regions. Follow the steps below to set up your Skybox.

Learn how to set up your virtual home:

• Access the Meta Quest headset;
• Go to the settings page;
• Open the personalization tab;
• Scroll through the options until you find the Virtual Environment option;
• Upload images and customize your Skybox.

In addition to the custom skybox, the update brings push notifications to 2D apps like Messenger. Supported 2D apps will start showing notifications while the user is using Meta Quest. According to Meta, the notifications will be detailed and the user will be able to see the profile picture of whoever is sending the message when using the headset. Notifications can be turned off by activating the Do Not Disturb mode, in addition, it will be possible to turn off notifications from applications separately.

Meta has been investing in a VR headset and continues to push forward with its plans for the Metaverse, although those investments aren’t seeing much results. CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that 2023 will be the year of efficiency for the company, a reduction in investment in addition to the mass layoffs of employees carried out at the beginning of the year.
