Italian authorities have announced the suspension of flights from Catania International Airport on the island of Sicily due to the presence of suspended ash from the eruption of Mount Etna.
According to the news agency AdnKronos, the increased activity of the volcano and the fall of volcanic ash on the airport’s runways led to the decision to suspend activities until safety conditions improve.
On Sunday morning, the closure of the airspace sector near the airport was announced and a warning about possible delays in arrivals and departures due to the presence of ash from the volcano.
