China’s State Administration of Cyberspace Regulation has banned the use of microcircuits by the leading American manufacturer Micron Technology in the country’s critical information infrastructure.

According to Ukrinform’s own correspondent, this was reported by the Office in a separate statement.

“The review revealed that Micron products have serious potential network security issues that pose a major security risk to China’s critical information infrastructure and could affect the country’s national security. In accordance with the “Network Security Act” and other laws and regulations, the ministry said in a statement. Critical information infrastructure operators in the U.S. need to stop buying Micron products.”

It reports that this conclusion was reached after Department experts checked the compliance of Micron products sold in China with the network security requirements set by Chinese legislation. No details were given about what inconsistencies in parameters were found during the audit and which products were subject to the ban.

The American company said it received a message from the Chinese regulator about checking products, as well as preparing for negotiations with Chinese authorities.

Micron Technology is an American multinational corporation, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of computer memory units, including DRAM, flash media and USB flash drives. The company’s products for the general consumer market are sold under the “Crucial” and “Ballistix” trademarks.

Last year, Micron sold approximately $3.3 billion worth of semiconductors in China, accounting for 10% of the company’s total sales.

As reported by Ukrinform, China on Sunday successfully launched new satellites for space exploration, including Macao Science 1, the first space exploration satellite in the Macao Special Administrative Region.
