Roman Kolomiets, a teacher of the University Faculty of Information and Computer Technologies, told the Ukrinform reporter about this.

“The development of a cold plasma generator for medical use is currently underway. We focus on medicine, although such generators are used mainly in the food industry. The principle of operation is the ionization of air at a high voltage of about 20 thousand volts, and the ions are a new bulk state of matter – plasma. Bacteria “The advantage of this development is that the bacterium does not develop immunity against itself. When we use antibiotics against bacteria, they do not kill them 100% because the bacteria develop immunity against them and mutate. As for viruses, the effectiveness of the cold plasma generator has not been proven.”

According to the scientist, such a method began to develop in the world about 10 years ago. The cost of cold plasma generators in the EU and the USA is very high, and the development of Zhytomyr Polytechnic aims to make it lower and acceptable for Ukrainian consumers.

Currently, the university has created the third prototype of such a generator, which is planned to be further developed. Kolomiets emphasizes that the enhancement can be used to treat wounds, because cold plasma can stop bleeding, has a bactericidal effect and protects against thermal damage to tissues.

Also, this method is suitable for sterilizing instruments in hospitals, beauty salons and tattoo parlors. The advantages of the cold plasma generator include the ability to sterilize instruments made of any material, in particular. For example, only metal products are suitable for sterilization by boiling. Compared with quartzing, this improvement fixture can process all directions at the same time.
