State Intelligence Service warns of hackers’ spying activities against Ukraine and six countries

Experts of the Ukrainian state computer emergency response team CERT-UA discovered the hackers’ espionage activities related to organizations in Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Israel, Iran and India.

As reported by Ukrinform, the State Special Communications and Information Protection Service reported this.

“Experts of the computer emergency response team of the Ukrainian government, CERT-UA, operating under State Special Communications, took measures to detect and respond to a cyberattack in the information and communication system of one of the Ukrainian state bodies.” reads the message.

It was recorded that on 18 and 20 April 2023, dangerous e-mails were sent to the e-mail address of the apartment (possibly hijacked) from the official mailbox of the Tajikistan Embassy in Ukraine. One of them contained an application in the form of a document with a macro, and the second contained a link to the same document. Downloading the document and activating the macro leads to the installation of spyware, especially on devices.

“Additional study of the infrastructure and related files has allowed experts to conclude that among the objects of interest of the criminal organization are organizations from Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Israel, Iran and India,” the State Intelligence Service said.

As reported, the Russians are looking for new methods to gain unauthorized access to the information systems of Ukrainian organizations and citizens, especially using pirated programs.
