Announcing the winners of the OneWeb Innovation Challenge

SAINT LOUIS – On May 22, OneWeb announced the six finalists for its annual Innovation Challenge.

The finalists selected by the London-based broadband company are:

  • KP Labs, a Polish startup applying artificial intelligence to challenging space missions;
  • LUTW, a Canadian non-profit dedicated to autonomous solar projects;
  • cloud collaboration and video conferencing specialist MAV Reality;
  • Ramon.Space, a Silicon Valley-based space supercomputer provider;
  • at Romanian Aerospace Engineering (RISE), an aerospace research firm;
  • Skyted, a French startup specializing in confidential calling and speech technology; And
  • Space Products and Innovation (SPiN) is a German company focused on reducing the cost of satellite integration.

More than 70 participants from 25 countries participated in the OneWeb Innovation Challenge 2022, Connectivity and Beyond! Through a competition held in conjunction with the European Space Agency, OneWeb invited people to identify products and services to “unlock the potential of OneWeb’s global communications network to serve future generations,” according to a press release.

Massimiliano Ladovaz, Chief Technology Officer of OneWeb, said in a statement: “A big congratulations to the seven finalists in the industrial category announced today. They join a growing list of organizations that have access to OneWeb resources to collaborate and grow in our innovation community. On behalf of OneWeb, exclusively for everyone who participates.” I want to shout out – the quality of the entries was high and we will continue to work with many more participants as we progress.”

OneWeb has 633 first-generation broadband satellites in low Earth orbit. The company only needs 588 to provide global coverage. The remaining satellites act as backup in orbit.
