When dividing attendees into different virtual rooms, you can now randomly assign them in Microsoft Teams.
Since Microsoft Teams introduced the breakout rooms feature in 2020, you as an organizer can conveniently assign virtual rooms to participants. The main reason for these virtual rooms is to spark better discussions instead of cramming everyone into one big virtual room.
Starting this week, Microsoft is introducing a new feature in Breakout Rooms that lets you let teams decide who gets put in which room. when you are on Mix When you click as an organizer, you have two options: All or Unassigned people only. The first is self-explanatory: each participant in the meeting is assigned a random seat. If you have already assigned a seat to some people, for example some moderators, you can use the second option to automatically distribute the rest.
Currently, the feature is only available in Microsoft Teams public preview for Windows and macOS. Only admins or the meeting organizer can assign seats within a breakout session. All you have to do is run the Teams trial to start using the feature today. The rest of the participants do not have to.
It’s currently unclear when the feature will be rolled out to all Teams users.
