Rollable Flex is the latest innovation from the Samsung screen manufacturer. The flexible screen can be rolled up and down and “grows” up to five times its original length.

With the Rollable Flex, Samsung Display has developed a screen that can be rolled up and down. This design literally has room to grow and can grow up to five times its original length. The prototype was showcased at SID Display Week, the specialty show currently taking place in Los Angeles.

Practical

Originally, the screen is 49mm high, but when fully extended it can reach a length of 254.4mm. The winding and unwinding takes place along a cylindrical shaft. You can almost see it as the modern version of an old scroll of parchment.

Rolled up, it doubles as a regular portable screen, similar to a smaller tablet or mini-laptop. Fully rolled out, the Rollable Flex can serve as a real monitor without hesitation. This suddenly makes it much easier to transport a screen of some size.

Samsung Display developers often come up with screens that – figuratively – catch the eye; For example, a smartphone screen that rotates 360° was proposed earlier this year.
