Synology DSM 7.2 is now available for many NAS devices

If you have a NAS system that is less than 8 years old, you can download and install Synology DSM 7.2 now.

Synology provides DiskStation Manager 7.2 (DSM) for all NAS devices DSx16 or older and RSxx16 or older. To be sure, you can check if your NAS is in the list here. click on operating system version first up DSM 7.2 series above to see the latest version. If it is not in the list, your NAS solution will be phased out of support and you will no longer receive major updates.

DSM 7.2 introduces many new features. For example, you can now handle WriteOnce folders that are locked to prevent modifications or deletions. You can configure such folders to be temporary or permanent.

M.2 NVMe storage is now supported in more systems. With it, you can create an SSD cache or flexibly configure all-flash volumes for faster performance in virtual machines. The feature is now available on DS1621+, DS1821+, DS1621xs+ and DS1522+. To avoid overloading an SSD, inline zero-block erase speeds up data deduplication by reducing post-process deduplication times.

You can configure Adaptive Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) in DSM7.2 to prompt for confirmation when someone tries to log in to a DSM administrator account via an untrusted remote connection. Expanded support for SSO Server and SSO Client protocols in DSM 7.2 allows access through a single account regardless of which provider is used.

Earlier this month, Synology launched two AI-powered cameras in the Benelux for the first time. The main benefit is that there is no need to purchase Surveillance Station device licenses for these cameras. At the same time, the Synology DS423 also saw the light of day as a beginner-friendly 4-bay NAS.
