This year’s Microsoft Build developer conference was mostly about AI, but the company is making announcements in other areas as well, including this update that’s particularly helpful for Windows 11 users.

RAR for Windows

According to the source, it will be an open source solution based on the multi-format library project. Microsoft says that this change not only offers the option to work with its own RAR files, but also additional formats such as tar, zip, gz and others. The company also declares about “improved functionality” in terms of compression compared to third-party programs.

The company hasn’t announced an official launch date for the feature, but today, May 24, the Windows 11 update with Bluetooth LE support and more is ending, so it’s possible the feature is already there.

We will also remind you that Microsoft plans to integrate the Copilot AI assistant directly into the Windows and Edge browser. It will help users streamline their routine work and in some cases even replace search engines. The Copilot button is located on the taskbar. When enabled, a sidebar will appear similar to the one used when interacting with a bot in the new Bing. The update is already being tested.
