Microsoft Fabric is a new, integrated data analysis platform that brings all the latest tools under one roof and adds AI.

At its own Build developer conference, Microsoft introduces Fabric, an umbrella platform that brings together existing elements. Fabric is a SaaS product that integrates solutions like Data Factory, Synapse, and Power BI.

According to Microsoft, it replaces those solutions with a simpler, more manageable platform that will also cost less. In addition, Fabric also offers numerous AI capabilities in tools that data professionals need, such as B. data integration, data engineering, data warehousing, data science, real-time analytics and business intelligence.

All under one roof

The cloud giant says at Build that many companies already use a lot of data for digital transformation, but there is a need for simplification for the application of generative AI. Services like Azure OpenAI can do that, but providing a steady stream of clean data is often the biggest challenge. Rather than struggle with it, Microsoft Fabric offers a simplified platform that brings everything together.

Fabric supports multiple elements of Azure Synapse, including data engineering, data science, data warehousing, and real-time analytics. Power BI is on to present everything in a visually appealing way. Fabric was built on OneLake, an open data lake platform.

You can already preview all the functions mentioned above today. All of this will soon be poured with AI sauce, Microsoft’s own AI assistant Copilot is coming soon for Windows 11 and already in OneNote, GitHub, Power Platform and the Office suite today, whether as an Insider in beta or not. Using simple language in a chat-style interface, you can easily generate code and queries in Fabric, build AI plugins, create visualizations, and more.

Finally, Fabric even extends to Microsoft Teams, where you can integrate data directly into chats, channels, meetings and presentations.
