Denmark wants to lower the age limit so that teenage girls can interrupt pregnancy without parental consent from the current age of 18 to 15, in line with the country’s age of consent, Minister Gender equality, Marie Biere.

Liberal Bjerre put forward a decision on the day of the 50th anniversary of decriminalization abortion in Denmark and said it was “natural” to debate whether the regulation strikes a “proper balance”.

“According to the legal age sexual intercourse is 15 years old. Also 15 years old to be able to consent to treatment in health. That’s why we think it’s right that an abortion can be done between the ages of 15 and 17 without parental involvement,” he added.

Bjerre acknowledged that terminating a pregnancy is not an “easy choice” and that it is important that young women in this situation seek support in their environment and turn to trusted people, such as friends, brothers or teachers.

“Abortion can be associated with many emotions, blame And shame. Asking for parental consent from someone under 18 can be humiliating and have serious consequences,” Bjerre tweeted.

“We want to change that so that young people can choose whether or not to involve their parents,” he added.

“This is a very difficult choice. But this is not the choice of parents. It belongs to the young woman because it is about her own body and her own life,” he said.
