Soon you will be able to open RAR archive files without installing WinRAR. At the same time, Microsoft is also centralizing RGB control for fairground lighting enthusiasts on their PC.

WinRAR is facing a difficult period: Windows 11 will support RAR archive files by default from the end of this week. tar, 7-zip and gz are also supported by Explorer. With support for all of the above archive files, users no longer need to install external applications to open them. Previously only zip archive files were supported by Microsoft. Whether the performance and compression will be as strong as with the external applications is still debatable.

The feature will be available to all users later this year.

Central RGB control in Windows 11

Microsoft also extends feature optimization to RGB lighting. Soon you will be able to do this institutionsMenu to centrally control all your RGB needs without having to install cumbersome add-on software from manufacturers yourself. If you are crazy about fairground lighting and want to synchronize your setup, you either have to stay with the same manufacturer or install several programs and hope that they work well together. Even turning off the light requires software.

Today there is already OpenRGB as an attempt to bring more order to the chaos, but standard integration in Windows 11 will make everything much clearer and will also force manufacturers to achieve faster compatibility.

Under the hub Dynamic lighting in the institutionsMenu, Windows Insiders will be able to test the feature for the first time later this month. Hopefully later this year the feature will be rolled out broadly for all fans of lights in their PC, as well as non-fans who want to disable the LEDs.
