The major layoffs in the last quarter of the fiscal year that ended in March came amid a prolonged downturn in the computer business as the Chinese company posted $249 million in restructuring costs.
The company’s president and CEO, Yang Yuanqing, said Lenovo’s layoff scale, announced at its annual earnings press conference, is below 5 percent.
However, Wong Wai Min, Vice President and Finance Director, said before his speech that the figure was 8-9%.
Both representatives of the company refused to give exact figures for the discounts.
“Lenovo’s interim report, released in November, said the group had around 82,000 employees worldwide as of the end of September. According to this figure, a 5% cut is 4,100, and an 8-9 percent cut is 6,560. It means between 7,380 and 7,380 layoffs,” the statement said.
The executive director of the company emphasized that this is a one-time measure, adding that the restructuring of the company has already been carried out. He noted that the restructuring would reduce annual costs by $850 million based on current estimates, starting this fiscal year.
As reported by Ukrinform, on Wednesday the company Meta carried out the last three stages of employee reduction.
