Copilot, Microsoft’s AI assistant, now supports plugins and is compatible with ChatGPTs.

Starting today, Microsoft supports three types of plugins for use in the AI ​​Assistant Copilot: ChatGPT, Teams Message Extensions, and Power Platform connectors. At the Build developer conference, Microsoft reports that the “Early Access” phase will start with around 50 plug-ins, including those from Atlassian and Adobe. The full list is below:

By the time the plugins are officially rolled out to all developers worldwide, Microsoft hopes to have a library of more than thousands. Does today break ground on the road to the next-gen App Store, like Apple did with the iPhone, but for generative AI?

Microsoft claims it provides developers with plenty of AI tools to get started. Google has the same ambitions with Duet AI, but that service isn’t available today and doesn’t support plugins yet.

Copilot isn’t the only Microsoft service that supports plugins. The feature will also be available for Bing Chat on the Edge internet browser. The same integration with ChatGPT’s plugin library applies here as well.

Bing as a search engine in ChatGPT

That both parties strengthen each other is not illogical after Microsoft invested $10 billion in OpenAI. Today, it continues to invest hundreds of millions more in Azure infrastructure to train the neural network and innovate further.

Most notably, Bing is now ChatGPT’s default search experience. Starting today, ChatGPT Plus subscribers will see quotes under search results, similar to what Bing Chat does today. It remains to be seen whether the feature will also be rolled out for free users. Of course, Microsoft prefers using Bing Chat in Edge. Let’s wait and see how OpenAI will handle this.
