Sony has announced Project Q, the Japanese giant’s return to the “portable console” market. And that’s why we quote It won’t be exactly the rumored PlayStation Vita 2but a peripheral / accessory that will stream games from the PS5.
You already know that the segment of portable gaming machines has been extremely encouraged after the launch of Valve’s Steam Deck, the development of Chinese manufacturers such as AYA or One-Netbook and the entry of other big companies such as Logitech, Razer and more recently the spectacular ROG Ally from ASUS. And of course the Nintendo Switch, thanks to its ability to play on the go and which continues to sell like hot cakes.
After ending production of the Vita handheld console, Sony could no longer stay out of this important market segment and He’s coming back…albeit in his own way, which frankly isn’t as interesting as we originally expected. Even though we were afraid.
As the company announced at its event Playstation show, It will be a portable device with an 8-inch screen (LCD panel with FHD resolution and 60 fps) and all the buttons present on the DualSense wireless controller, including haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
It will not be a console to use, but rather an additional accessory. PlayStation 5 accessory because -from what has been said so far – you can only play games that are installed on the console, remotely or connected to the same Wi-Fi network. It won’t be possible to play any PS VR2 games either.
Obviously, this is not a portable console that we can consider independent, and we see this project as very limited to how it is in the market. PS5 owners may be interested, but what about the rest of us gamers who have been thinking about buying a Vita 2?
Sony has also announced plans to launch its own wireless headphones for playstation. They will work on both PS5 and PC. Sony says it will also connect to smartphones via Bluetooth.
The company has extensive experience with sound and wireless headphones in the elite of this sector, so we are sure that this is a quality model and that it meets the requirements “low latency lossless audio” what Sony promises. A video of the event showed the headphones being stored in what appeared to be a charging case.
The Sony Project Q and headphones will be released later this year, likely in time for the Christmas season. No further details on hardware and pricing were provided. The company will offer more information in the coming weeks. What do you think? Did you miss the launch of the real Vita 2?
