Windows Dev Home is intended to be the new central dashboard for developers using Windows 11. Dev Home allows you to manage all your active workflows from one place.

Microsoft showed a first preview of Windows Dev Home during Build 2023, its developer conference, held this week. Dev Home aims to be a “home” for software developers: the tool includes several features that help streamline the development cycle, such as a connection to GitHub.

Start coding with just a few clicks

The WinGet mechanism eliminates the manual configuration work that precedes each project. Developers are completely spared the hassle of searching for the right software version, downloading the necessary tools, and verifying the correct settings. Now all you have to do is run the command Configure wings Run it in a command prompt and Dev Home ensures you can start coding with peace of mind in just a few clicks.

Microsoft adds Dev Home to Dev Home for secure storage of software libraries. Setting up a Dev Drive folder is as simple as entering a name, capacity and location. Microsoft Defender then keeps an eye on your folders. The dashboard gives you additional statistics on your current projects, such as CPU usage.

You can see a preview of Windows Dev Home in the Microsoft Store. To bridge the gap to the cloud, Microsoft released a preview of the Dev Box cloud workstations last summer. These will be upgraded to general availability in July.
