The 200-tonne Nuri, also known as KSLV-II, was launched from the Naro Space Center in the southern coastal city of Goheung, according to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI).
Nuri carries eight practical satellites on board, including NEXTSAT-2, South Korea’s second next-generation small satellite, and four microsatellites developed by the Korean Institute of Astronomy and Space Sciences.
The satellites were planned to be launched into orbit at an altitude of 550 kilometers from the Earth approximately 13 minutes after launch.
Later, citing the government, the agency reported that the satellites were successfully launched into orbit.
South Korea had planned to launch a three-stage rocket on Wednesday, but a computer glitch caused the launch to be delayed by one day.
As reported by Ukrinform, First attempt to launch Nuri in 2020 failed. The rocket then successfully reached the target altitude of 700 kilometers, but was unable to launch the model satellite into orbit as the third stage engine burned out sooner than expected.
