For the first time, the ability to force close applications in the taskbar appeared in the first test builds of Windows 11.
As part of the Build for Developers conference, Microsoft has confirmed that this feature will soon appear in the official build of the operating system. It will be part of a series of new Windows 11 features that the company plans to add in upcoming updates.
The new feature will be part of the context menu that appears when you right-click an application in the taskbar: besides the usual shutdown window, pin the application to the panel, settings and other options, you can now find “Force shutdown”.
Note that a new version of Windows 11 was released yesterday, May 24, but judging by the messages there is no such possibility. The new build includes a data backup and restore feature that simplifies the process of restoring apps, settings, and even Wi-Fi passwords to a new PC. The company has also redesigned some emojis for Windows 11, making them more recognizable, adding other improvements to the taskbar, and more.
