“The killing of George Floyd has revealed to many what communities of color have long known and experienced,” Biden said in a statement released by the White House.

“As a society, we must commit ourselves to ensuring that our nation is true to its founding promise impartial justice for everyone who is under the law,” he added.

Biden recalled that a year ago, he signed executive orders that relate to the federal police and include, among other measures, a ban on strangulation, limiting searches that are carried out without knocking on the door, or creating a data bank to record police misconduct.

“But we know that real, sustainable change at the state and local levels requires congressional action.” “I urge Congress to undertake meaningful police reform,” he added.
