Space tourism company Virgin Galactic plans to make its first flight in about two years today.
reported Reuters reports Ukrinform.
The launch vehicle VSS Eve is expected to take off from a runway in New Mexico with the suborbital vehicle VSS Unity.
If the test flight is successful, Virgin Galactic hopes to make the first commercial flight by the end of June. The company plans to perform the missions approximately every month.
Virgin Galactic pilots Jamil Janjua and Nicola Pesile will fly VMS Eve and separate the spacecraft at an altitude of about 15 kilometers.
After that, the spacecraft will start the rocket engine and soar in microgravity to an altitude of about 80 km.
The test mission will take approximately 90 minutes from takeoff until the spacecraft lands in microgravity three minutes later. Virgin Galactic plans to offer such flights to its customers, which currently has around 800 employees. Most paid $250,000 to $450,000 for tickets.
Virgin Galactic, a company backed by billionaire Richard Branson in May last year, delayed the start of commercial flights to the first quarter of 2023 due to the supply chain crisis and workforce shortages, as Ukrinform reported.
