With the acquisition of “Google challenger” Neeva, Snowflake adds intelligent AI search capabilities to its data cloud. Details of the acquisition will not be disclosed.

Snowflake makes the acquisition of Neeva official in a blog post. Neeva is a company specializing in the development of search technologies. Sometimes referred to as Google’s challenger, the company was also founded by two former employees of the search giant. Not entirely coincidentally, Neeva recently announced that it would shut down its consumer division and focus fully on the enterprise market, with generative AI spearheading it, of course.

Search the data cloud

Snowflake wants to use Neeva’s search technology in its data cloud. This cloud-based solution includes data lake and data warehouse capabilities so organizations can bring data together across silos, but Snowflake goes beyond that. Because the data cloud enables companies to easily and securely share their data or parts of it with third parties or, conversely, to integrate third-party data sets with their own data.

Neeva’s integration aims to make it easier for companies to navigate through their vast amounts of data. “Search is fundamental to how companies interact with their data. Teams’ ability to find just the right data point, data set, or data insight is critical to maximizing data value. This acquisition allows us to leverage some of the most advanced search technologies to take Snowflake’s search and conversation to a new level,” writes Snowflake’s Benoit Dageville on the blog.

The company has not yet announced how much Snowflake will pay to capture Neeva or how it plans to integrate the AI search functions into the data cloud. Snowflake will be releasing more information about their plans shortly.
