If there are two great tech companies whose names we currently associate with artificial intelligence, undoubtedly it is Microsoft and NVIDIA. Firstly, because of the speed with which it introduces this technology into its products and services, and secondly, because of the large number of experiments that come out of its laboratories, and because of the importance that its GPUs have acquired in terms of computing. AI model calculation.

As you may remember, just yesterday we told you that Intel and Microsoft had started an important collaboration brings computing with artificial intelligence to the PC. For those who do not fully understand the concept, it should be clarified that it is not the same to take advantage of AI-based services from a PC, where the computing functions fall to the IT infrastructure that provides the service through than to create a home computer capable of autonomously performing AI-based operations . The first fruit of this collaboration will be the integration of the neural VPU (Vision Processing Unit) into future Meteor Lake chipsets.

I realize that when I hear (and then write) that message, the name NVIDIA kept running through my head. That Intel’s integrated ones add features and components (due to their chiplet) bringing desktop AI closer to the desktop seems like a big step forward to me, but for a plan in that direction, if it’s ambitious enough, NVIDIA GPUs with their huge level of AI specialization should also be taken into account.

Microsoft and NVIDIA are working together to extend the reach of AI

Well, after all, it seems that my thinking about things made quite a bit of sense (that one can also be wrong, and therefore of course they are). So as we can read in The Montley Fool, Microsoft and NVIDIA announced an agreement to collaborate on the development of artificial intelligence. Of course, this is not the first collaboration between the two giants, in fact a few years ago they announced their plans to create a supercomputing platform dedicated to AI.

This new collaboration is established on several fronts, but the one that interests us the most here is undoubtedly the one related to the consumer computer market, that is, the PC world. In this sense, Microsoft has announced the inclusion of new features in Windows 11 (and we understand that in future versions of the operating system) that will allow developers to create artificial intelligence algorithms that can run autonomously on desktop systemsbringing AI computing even closer to the PC.

These features, yes, are supported by NVIDIA hardware and given that both collaborations were announced just a few hours apart, we can understand that the approach is that the processor, GPU and operating system can work in combination thanks to these new Windows features. this of course explains why there is talk of a new generation of artificial intelligence applicationsand this leap would be fully justified if its distinguishing feature was that they eliminate the dependence on external services by allowing autonomous running on the PC.
