Microsoft is adapting its API system for Copilot. For this purpose, Redmond uses the same standards as ChatGPT.

Microsoft brings simplicity to its range of Copilot solutions. Copilot is Microsoft’s name for a growing range of announced AI services, some of which are already available. For example, Github Copilot helps you to write code and Copilot has to create your powerpoint presentations in Office. At Build, Microsoft just announced that Copilot will soon be able to build your website too.

Universal API

Microsoft’s co-pilots need to make themselves useful by collaborating with other products and services. These integrations are based on APIs. To make life easier for developers, Microsoft now chooses to use the same standard for its APIs that OpenAI uses for ChatGPT.

This has useful consequences. Any plugin that works with ChatGPT is also compatible with Microsoft Copilot. Developers can thus integrate AI functionality into their solutions with additional flexibility. Finally, a plugin works with different AI models. Of course, the unit also makes it easy to create plugins for the different versions of Copilot.

The synergy with ChatGPT is not that surprising. After all, Microsoft is the main shareholder of OpenAI. The models developed by OpenAI are at the heart of Redmond’s Copilot portfolio.
