Microsoft introduces Copilot in its web design tool Power Pages. Generative AI lets you create components for your website based on text input.

The word “copilot” came up more than once during the Microsoft Build conference this week. Copilot is the umbrella name Microsoft uses for new generative AI tools for its applications and Windows. Microsoft will also introduce such a co-pilot for the web design tool Power Pages in order to simplify the construction of a website.

No blank page

This is how it works. You simply tell Copilot what you want and the algorithms will design a template. Power Pages can create text, fill-in forms, and even chatbots, among other things, but it can also offer advice on the layout and general design of your website. You no longer have to start with a blank page.

The tool itself is based on OpenAI’s GPT 3.5 model, which Microsoft has access to for its own use thanks to generous funding from the company. This isn’t the very latest version of the language model, but the capabilities of GPT 3.5 are already extensive. Nevertheless, Microsoft Power Pages users are asking for active feedback on the AI-generated designs.

Finally, the software giant emphasizes to TechCrunch that Copilot will contain built-in mechanisms to not produce “malicious content”. This is to prevent the tool from being misused, for example to set up spam websites.
