Texas Attorney Ken Paxton to be prosecuted for bribery

Texas House of Representatives votes to start process Impeachment Trial of State Attorney General Ken Paxtonbecause of allegations of corrupt practicesabuse of public trust and failure to fulfill their duties, among other things.

paxton, close to the figure of former President Donald Trumphas been under investigation by the FBI for several years on charges of using his office to help a donor and is accused of frauda crime for which he has not yet been tried.

The state House of Representatives, led by the Republican Party itself, began a debate this Saturday to decide whether to impeach Paxton and therefore remove him from office.

TO 121 votes for and only 23 againstthe majority of the Chamber voted in favor of initiating a political process against the suspended prosecutor.

The vote required a simple majority in the House of Representatives, consisting of 85 Republicans and 64 Democrats.

After that, the decision goes to Texas Senate.

Paxton has been one of the most prominent justice campaigners in the Republican Party and in 2020 was among those who petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court cancel Joe Biden’s election victory over Trump.

Through his social network Truth Social, the former President threatened Republicans who support the impeachment process this Saturday.

“I hope Republicans in the Texas House of Representatives agree that this is a highly unfair process that cannot be allowed to happen or continue,” Trump tweeted ahead of the vote, saying he would fight Paxton.

Upon learning the result of the vote, Paxton released a statement on social media calling the incident “an ugly sight” and “scandalous impeachment plotwhich was “never intended to be fair or equitable”.

“It was a politically motivated farce from the very beginning,” he said.

Last Thursday, a Texas House of Representatives committee recommended impeachment proceedings against Paxton after years scandals and allegations of corruption.

Possible resignation of the prosecutor

The unanimous Republican members of the Texas House of Representatives General Investigation Committee have taken an unprecedented step that could result in the removal of the Attorney General, who was re-elected last November for his third term.

Impeachment, known in English as impeachment, is a process in which the integrity or capacity of a person holding public office is called into question.

Only two officials in Texas’ nearly 200-year history have been impeached: the governor in 1917 and the district judge in 1976. (E.F.E.)
