I’ve been able to fully test SkyShowtime since it officially arrived in Spain at the end of February. Take advantage of the introductory offer that, although more expensive, not only keeps the price at 2.99 euros, but also guarantees that you will always pay half. But, now no lower price, no lifetime discount. Goodbye SkyShowtime.

Of course, I am speaking from personal experience, respecting everyone’s taste and preference. I’m not putting aside what I love about SkyShowtime either, but ultimately I realized it wasn’t for me. At least for now.

Low price and “just one more subscription” trap

If we look at the price comparison of the main streaming platforms, we see that SkyShowtime is the cheapest platform at 2.99 euros. Equal much cheaper than almost all without the first promotionbelow 5.49 of this platform only has FlixOlé and Prime Video.

But we in the subscription era. They are everywhere; from streaming platforms like this to apps of all kinds. And be careful, these aren’t always a bad choice, and I enjoy a lot of things I see well rewarded.

However, I also acknowledge that I have subscribed many times to services that I think will make it profitable, taking advantage of their cheapness and the fact that they are just another subscription after all. He wouldn’t have noticed that its price was so low. The 3 euros SkyShowtime cost me didn’t make me poor, just as I’m not rich now because I didn’t spend it. But, becomes a significant mountain with other subscriptions.

So I wanted to see if it was profitable for me in the end, based on the fact that it’s still something that costs me money every month. If you actually used it. I didn’t need a huge board and many calculators because I knew it myself. I barely used it for over a week. Why so little? I explain.

SkyShowtime needs its own bombshell

When I saw what I was most interested in, SkyShowtime had little or nothing to offer me. Be careful, I’m not saying it doesn’t have enough content for someone to pay for it. But, the vast majority of their catalogs move away from my content preferencesexcept for some animated series that I skimmed just for nostalgia.

Image: SkyShowtime’s ‘Yellowstone’

‘Yellowstone’ is definitely the biggest asset of the platform. And although it wasn’t to my liking (I couldn’t get past the second part), I admit it was a good production. Actually, I know from friends that it is a very good series. However, it is not a famous bombshell like other platforms have.

And perhaps the key to my sensing that it will be difficult to find followers, not just for me, but for SkyShowtime as well: they barely have weekly premieres and what they do have is not that they are titles that are called to attract subscribers. The most recent event is to have saved the Spanish comedy ‘Por Ho por B’, which HBO Max produced at the time, as a result of the short film ‘Pipas’, and while I admit it’s funny, it’s not the content that’s keeping me going.

There’s more that shocked me when I saw your catalog

Then I stumbled upon a controversial topic and they “Withdrawal” of series in its catalog. Without prior notice, an indication began appearing on some TV shows this week that they would disappear in 28 days (less now, of course). My colleague Alejandro Alcolea contacted the platform and they told him it was due to an error. I have no reason to doubt SkyShowtime’s word, but days later everything stays the same and the countdown continues to go on makes me feel bad.

I’ve also been stuck with dramas on other platforms during these months when I left SkyShowtime aside. ‘Silo’, which is still live on Apple TV+, is one of my favorite things. But also some movies brought by Movistar Plus+ and Netflix.

Still, I hope SkyShowtime can convince me again in the future to just watch certain content and walk away again. And although the 2.99 euros will never have it. However, another reason why I don’t want to leave is, I don’t know how long I’ll have to wait to connect to something from SkyShowtime. And I honestly found it ridiculous to keep paying in the meantime.

Also, although there is no reason to withdraw, I admit that 1080p is a little underpowered. My colleague Alejandro, mentioned above, explained something similar to my experience, although he applied it to his own situation. He underlined one thing I totally agree with: 4K is required. I understand it would be a pre-designed discount to justify the price cut, but if you want to counter the really big ones, you should bet on it.

And another thing that shocks me is that, There are no newbies behind SkyShowtime, but some of the biggest in the industry. It is named after not only Sky Studios and Showtime, but also DreamWorks Animation, Paramount Pictures, Peacock and Universal Pictures. There is such a force behind me that the catalog is so limited that it throws me back. And what’s more, when the platform arrives a year after the United States, it may at least have bought time to announce upcoming celebrity productions.

Alliance with operators can also be useful

While I am currently happy with my cell phone company and my home fiber provider, which is not a single company, I also do not mind consolidating my services into a single company. In this respect Operators such as Movistar, Vodafone and Orange often offer television.whether it’s its own or platforms like Disney+.

When it comes to streaming platforms, they usually give it for a few months and then give it a discount when contracted together with fiber and mobile package. Altogether this saves a lot of money, so seeing SkyShowtime added to carriers’ options might be just the right thing to get it back on the platform.

For this reason, Exactly three months after SkyShowtime came on, I’m sorry to say it wasn’t for me. I will come? Certainly. As I said before, including something that interests me in your catalog will keep me coming back for once without thinking. When I’m already more blurry. And SkyShowtime doesn’t give me much hope for that wait to be short.
