According to Watchful Technologies, Tako has been found in some versions of the TikTok app for Apple devices. Screenshots and videos provided by the research firm show the chatbot featured prominently in the app’s interface, represented by a ghost-shaped icon. Users can tap this icon while watching a video to start a conversation with Tako and get help finding content.
A TikTok spokesperson commented on the news, stating that the platform is always exploring new technologies to improve the user experience. This is not the first time that TikTok has invested in artificial intelligence resources. Recently there have been reports that the company is testing a generative artificial intelligence tool that allows users to create avatars. ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, is also working on a large-scale artificial intelligence model, according to Chinese media.
Last month, ByteDance filed for the trademark “TikTok Tako” in several categories, including “computer software for the artificial reproduction of human speech and text“, according to Reuters.

During a demo hosted by Watchful Technologies, Tako answered questions from TikTok users with tips and tricks on related videos. For example, when asked how to teach respect to children, the chatbot answered by summarizing the advice of other users and suggesting relevant videos.
TikTok said that Tako is an experimental chatbot and warned users that the answers may not be accurate. The platform said it would monitor conversations with Taco for security reasons and advised users not to share personal information with the chatbot.
With the introduction of Tako, TikTok aims to offer its users a more interactive and personalized experience, using artificial intelligence resources to help them find and enjoy relevant content on the platform.
