Seoul’s chief nuclear negotiator, Kim Gunn, and their American and Japanese counterparts Son Kim and Takehiro Funakoshi held emergency talks on Monday after Pyongyang announced plans to launch a satellite over Tokyo between May 31 and June 11.
“Representatives of the three countries strongly urge North Korea to refrain from an illegal launch that threatens peace in the region, and have agreed to work closely together to ensure a firm and unanimous response from the international community should Pyongyang carry out an illegal launch.” ,” he said.
Representatives from Korea, the United States and Japan also stressed that any launch by Pyongyang using ballistic missile technology contradicts a number of UN Security Council resolutions and cannot be justified in any way, including launching satellites into space.
As Ukrinform reports, a representative of the Japanese Coast Guard said on Monday that North Korea has notified Japan of its plans to launch a satellite between May 31 and June 11.
Japanese Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada has ordered the Self-Defense Forces to destroy ballistic missiles approaching the country.
