Developer tool GitLab recently released the latest version of its DevSecOps platform, dubbed GitLab 16. Like many online systems, this version is largely about AI.
With GitLab 16, the developer tool GitLab has launched a new version of its DevSecOps platform. Of the 55 updates and new features, some focus on artificial intelligence.
The most notable additions are Value Stream Dashboard, Centralized Policy Management, GitLab Dedicated, and a whole host of AI tools.
This new system allows users to visualize their end-to-end workflows with DevSecOps and monitor the development process. In addition, they gain insights into the added value of technology and digital transformations for their company.
The dashboard offers a whole range of metrics, including reporting on those numbers (without additional installs).
GitLab 16 includes several new security features: Extension of Centralized policy management and reporting and auditing, a regulatory dashboard, and standard SLSA attestations (“Supply chain levels for software artifacts‘) of level 3.
This function is currently only available to a very limited extent. It’s a single-tenant software-as-a-service solution that enables companies in highly regulated industries to comply with the strict rules they are required to operate by.
The biggest benefits are on-premises data storage, data isolation, and a private network.
A major update for GitLab 16 is the addition of some new tools based on artificial intelligence: Refactor This Code and Resolve This Vulnerability.
AI workflows in GitLab ensure faster and more efficient work, more data protection, support for all links in the development chain, forecast productivity, detect errors and vulnerabilities and fix them immediately, and keep developers informed by explaining code and refactoring code.
This new version of the platform is a direct response to the demand to unify DevSecOps tools and, most importantly, to enable AI to develop and distribute software faster.
GitLab recently surveyed 5,000 DevSecOps professionals on software development flows, security, and priorities. It turned out that more than 60 percent of developers are already working with generative artificial intelligence to check code. That is more than a tenth more than in the previous year
The same survey found that the three most important factors in a platform like GitLab 16 for developers are now efficiency, security, and automation.
This launch comes a few weeks after reports that GitLab is forming multiple generative AI collaborations with Google and Oracle.
