South Korea and France signed an agreement on military cooperation in space on Tuesday to maintain “future-oriented” bilateral security cooperation.
As reported by Ukrinform, Yonhap reported it.
“This is important as it will be the first step in expanding military cooperation between the two countries, as well as diversifying defense and space cooperation,” South Korea’s Ministry of Defense said in a press release.
Choi Byung-ok, Director General of the Defense Policy Bureau of the South Korean Ministry of Defense, and Philippe Adam, the French Space Commander, signed a letter of intent in Seoul for the military-space partnership between South Korea and France.
The Korean ministry said that under the agreement, the parties will discuss military-space cooperation and accelerate cooperation in strengthening space security capabilities by expanding human-to-human exchanges and other efforts.
At the time of signing the document, Choi offered to continue active bilateral cooperation through South Korea’s participation in French-led international space exercises.
According to the ministry, Adam promised to actively cooperate to ensure the strengthening of the operational capabilities of the two countries in a “win-win” direction.
As reported by Ukrinform, South Korea, the United States and Japan have warned Pyongyang that their plans to launch a satellite are illegal and will coordinate actions for a joint and decisive response in the event of a launch.
