North Korea unsuccessfully launched its launch vehicle on Wednesday morning, and it disappeared from radar shortly after launch.

This was reported by Yonhap with reference to the South Korean Chiefs of Staff (JCS), Ukrinform reported.

According to a statement from JCS, the military recorded a missile launch from the Tonchang-ri launch site on North Korea’s west coast at 6:29 a.m. to the south.

The missile flew over the Yellow Sea, far west of the island of Bengnyeon on the border with South Korea, and soon fell below Pyongyang’s declared safety limit over international waters, and its remnants could fall during a satellite’s launch.

The South Korean military, along with its allies, is trying to determine whether the missile exploded in mid-air or fell into the sea.

Following the detection of a missile launch from the territory of the DPRK in Seoul and on the southern Japanese island of Okinawa, warning systems of a missile attack were activated. Warnings were sent to the mobile phones of citizens and broadcast on radio and television.

Within half an hour, authorities in Seoul reported that the warning was false, and the weather alert in Okinawa was canceled shortly after.

As reported by Ukrinform, the representative of the Japanese coast guard said on Monday that it informed Japan the day before North Korea plans to launch a satellite between May 31 and June 11.

South Korea, the US and Japan have warned Pyongyang that their plans to launch a satellite are illegal and will coordinate for a joint decisive response in the event of a launch.

After reporting North Korea’s plans to launch satellites, Japanese Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada ordered the Self-Defense Forces to destroy any ballistic missiles approaching the country.
