The ChatGPT app can now also be downloaded if you live in Belgium or the Netherlands. The app lets you use OpenAI’s popular chatbot anywhere, with a sleeker design than ChatGPT’s web version. OpenAI launched the mobile application in the US two weeks ago. After an initial expansion to Germany and France, the app is now also appearing in the Belgian and Dutch app stores, according to Tweakers.

Android users will have to be patient for a while. OpenAI has already confirmed that an official Android app is definitely coming, but does not give any information on a deadline. So don’t be fooled by the many applications in the Google Play Store claiming to be ChatGPT. These are fake applications that can also pose a threat to your device. iOS users should also be careful to download the only official version, not a copy.

Will ChatGPT stay in Europe?

Contrary to what CEO Sam Altman suggests, OpenAI does not plan to remove ChatGPT from Europe right away. Nevertheless, the upcoming AI law is causing discussions. The bill will require developers of AI technologies to be more transparent about how they train their systems and, in particular, where they get the data from, in order to protect personal data and copyrighted works.

While this doesn’t seem like excessive demand, Altman doesn’t believe the obligations imposed are sustainable for his company over the long term. A (now resolved) conflict with the Italian data protection authority has affected the relationship between OpenAI and Europe. A story that will undoubtedly have a sequel.
